Impact Attenuators

Attenuator Types

Crash Cushions

Designed for reusability, crash cushions offer an impact attenuation solution with multiple segments that crumple into each other. Our compliment of crash cushion systems cover a wide range of traffic situations and are designed to meet MASH Test Level 3.

Sand Barrels

Sand barrels can be configured to meet almost any situation with the added benefit of being simple and easy to move and install. They are ideal attenuator solutions for cantilever posts, bridge abutments, gore areas and at the end of barrier walls.

Truck Mounted

Truck Mounted Attenuators are mobile attenuation solutions vital for highway construction and lane closure operations that put workers at risk.

Water-Filled

Water-Filled barriers offer an attenuator solution that is cheaper than steel to replace and are not anchored to the ground making them easier to deploy and relocate.

Crash Cushions

The Delta Crash Cushion consists of a series of steel three-beam fender panels supported by steel diaphragms. It attenuates energy evenly for all vehicle types with shear bolts tearing through cut-outs of various sizes and shapes. Quick and easy installation reduces exposure to traffic. Multi-directional object marker comes in Chevron, Left or Right angles, and can be quickly changed in the field.

Performs in all temperatures and climates and is a low cost MASH TL-3 non-gating redirective crash cushion.

The QuadGuard® II is a redirective, non-gating crash cushion that consists of an engineered steel nose and crushable, energy absorbing cartridges surrounded by a framework of steel Quad-Beam™ panels. The system is tested to NCHRP Report 350 Test Level 2 and Test Level 3.

The Test Level 2 model is 25% shorter than the original QuadGuard® measuring less than 10’ (3 m). The Test Level 3 model is nearly 3’ (.9 m) shorter in length than its predecessor. The QuadGuard® II can be used to shield fixed objects 24” to 126” wide (610 mm to 3.2 m) while using less than 19’ in length (22’ for the 126”).

The Smart Cushion® crash attenuator is a revolutionary, speed-dependent product that varies stopping resistance during an impact. The Smart Cushion crash attenuator allows lighter and slower-moving vehicles to have longer ridedown distances and lower ridedown g-forces.

Unlike fixed-resistance attenuators, the Smart Cushion® attenuator does not reach maximum stopping resistance unless a vehicle is traveling at the maximum design speed. This fully re-directive, non-gating, bidirectional, impact attenuator was designed for maximum safety and reusability, as well as outstanding durability before, during and after an impact.

The redirective, non-gating, universal TAU-M Crash Cushion has a compact, partially reusable design that’s easy to install, quick to repair onsite and includes numerous transition options. It’s an ideal crash cushion to shield most roadside and median hazards.

The Universal TAU-M Crash Cushion (TAU-M) is designed to meet MASH TL-3 and TL-2 testing requirements in a compact, partially reusable design. The system is available for concrete and asphalt applications and can shield hazards with widths up to 30” (880 mm). Ease of installation, fast on-sight repairs, and numerous transition options make the TAU-M system an ideal crash cushion to shield most roadside and median hazards. The TAU-M system is also available as an upgrade kit to retrofit existing NCHRP 350 TAU-II Systems into MASH TAU-M Systems.

Sand Barrels

Big Sandy

The Big Sandy is both NCHRP-350 Approved, TL-3 and MASH Eligible, TL-3. The barrels are covered by a plastic lid and have a lifting flange for purposes of attaching a lifting ring to move the barrels. Three separate barrels are available. The largest holds 2,100 lbs (960 kg.); the second largest holds 1,400 lbs. (640 kg.) and the third can be filled to 700 lbs. (320 kg.), 400 lbs. (180 kg.) and 200 lbs. (90 kg.). The third size barrel is assembled in the field by locking two different sizes of half-barrels together and filling to one of three different fill heights as marked on the barrel. The barrels are made of polypropylene and high-density polyethylene UV stabilized molded plastic with a yellow colorant. This plastic combination is engineered to break upon impact, resulting in proper attenuation of the impacting vehicle. All barrels are Q.C. tested for part weight, color, thickness, drain holes, and lid fit. Each plastic barrel comes with a five year, pro-rated repair or replacement warranty against U.V. weathering degradation.

Truck Mounted Attenuators

SS180 TMA

The SS180® M is a truck mounted attenuator for use on stationary or moving shadow or support vehicles. It is tested to MASH Test Level 3. The unit is comprised of two lightweight aluminum cartridges contained in a potentially reusable steel support frame, and a 180° tilt feature which folds at the center to stack the two cartridge sections on top of each other.* The SS180® M is designed to help absorb rear-end impacts at speeds up to 62 mph (100 km/h) when impacted within MASH crash test standards.

Water-Filled Attenuators

Sentry Longitudinal Energy Dissipater (SLED)

The Sentry Longitudinal Energy Dissipater (SLED) is a narrow, water-filled non-redirective gating crash cushion that is a MASH Tested, Passed, and Eligible. The SLED is designed to shield the end of all permanent and temporary portable barrier shapes including concrete, steel and plastic. SLED's unique design incorporates four internal steel cables which help envelop the impacting vehicle, reducing the possibility of secondary accidents. The SLED End Treatment does not require foundation anchor bolts to be attached to the road or bridge deck. The complete crash cushion can be installed quickly, with as little as one pick up truck and two workers on compacted dirt, gravel, decomposed granite, asphalt or concrete. Each SLED module is manufactured from a high visibility yellow polyethylene that is UV stabilized to minimize degradation. It is designed to deform and rupture on impact, absorbing the energy of the errant vehicle. SLED has the most versatile transition for shielding all permanent and temporary portable barriers. The combination of hinging and contouring, allows the transition panels of the SLED End Treatment to be attached to narrow, wide or other profile shapes with either converging, or diverging angles, up to 10 degrees.
